URI’s cloud infrastructure spans multiple providers — primarily Amazon AWS, with additional presence in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. The majority of managed services run on AWS.
While URI does make use of OCI, Azure, and Google resources for specific internal purposes, ITS does not currently support end-user activities in those clouds due to limited bandwidth and the lack of appropriate supporting infrastructure. AWS is the only cloud platform where ITS can actively assist users.
For most needs, ITS offers managed services — such as Web Hosting, Databases, and Servers — that provide cloud capabilities without requiring teams to manage accounts, billing, or security configuration themselves.
For teams wanting to understand what cloud infrastructure makes possible, or to discuss an independent AWS account, see the Amazon AWS service page or contact its-citi@uri.edu.
