Jupyter Hub is a browser-based environment for running Python notebooks, centrally hosted by URI Information Technology Services. By running entirely in a web browser at jupyter.uri.edu, it gives every student an identical, pre-configured environment — eliminating setup friction and ensuring a consistent experience across an entire class.
URI’s Jupyter Hub provides JupyterLab with Python 3.12, designed to serve courses that use Python for data analysis, computation, or scientific work. It is intended for academic coursework rather than research computing. We welcome inquiries from faculty interested in learning more — please reach out to its-citi@uri.edu.

JupyterHub is available to URI faculty and instructors for course instruction. To request JupyterHub for your course, contact its-citi@uri.edu. Exploratory accounts are also available for faculty and instructors who want to evaluate the service before requesting it for a course.
Students are granted access automatically when their instructor provisions JupyterHub for a course.
Looking for a browser-based R environment? See R Studio Server.
Support and Training
ITS provides and maintains the JupyterHub infrastructure, but does not provide instructional support for Python or JupyterLab itself. Students seeking help with Python programming or Jupyter notebooks should consult their course instructor, course materials, or the documentation available at jupyterlab.readthedocs.io.
Faculty, staff, and instructors who would like to explore the environment prior to use in a course are welcome to request an account by emailing its-citi@uri.edu.
Also available: R Studio Server — a browser-based R/RStudio environment for course instruction.
