Single Sign-On with Microsoft MFA
Your single sign-on account at URI uses Microsoft MFA to protect your account and information. Microsoft MFA provides multiple options you can select from to make accessing your account safer, faster, and easier. You can choose one or more options best suited for your work and learning experience.
What’s New?
In addition to the traditional mobile app experience for MFA, we now support the most modern and secure ways to verify who you are.
The best part? You may be able to say goodbye to passwords.
Cyber threats evolve every day. Passwords alone are no longer enough to keep your information safe. By upgrading to Microsoft MFA, we’re giving you access to the latest protective technology that major companies worldwide trust to secure their most important data. By adopting modern authentication methods, you’re not just protecting yourself—you’re helping keep our entire university secure.

Interested in Going Password-Free?
The new password-free login options use the most modern and secure technologies to protect your account. They aren’t right for everyone though. You may be eligible to go password-free depending on the types of services you use and your comfort level with newer technologies.
The Benefits of Going Password-Free
Easier Access No more typing complicated passwords. Just approve a notification on your phone to sign in—it takes seconds.
Stronger Security Password-free login is much harder for attackers to crack than traditional passwords. Your account becomes significantly more secure.
Less Frustration Forget the stress of forgotten passwords and password resets. Authentication is simpler and faster.
Peace of Mind You control who accesses your account through direct approval on your device. Only you can grant access.
Enhanced Security MFA Options
Microsoft MFA offers a variety of methods you can use during login such as passwordless options. This includes options for those who don’t want to install an app or don’t have a compatible smartphone. These newer and more secure options are not supported on every website or service, such as Apple Macs using JAMF which includes some classroom podiums. For now, you will need to stay with the mobile app option listed above.
For many people at URI, these newer options are a more convenient and hassle-free alternative to using passwords + MFA. If you are comfortable adopting newer technologies we’ve created an article that lists all the supported options and their limitations.
