The Microsoft Portal is an online platform that features URI supported applications, extra online storage and cloud-connected features. URI has full access to the Microsoft tool suite (Word, Excel, etc.) for all active faculty, staff and students at URI. The Portal also includes external applications such as Zoom, Webex, Brightspace, etc. The full Office 365 suite is available free of charge for up to 5 machines per active user (Windows, Macs, tablets and mobile devices). Word

Microsoft Word is a popular word-processing program used primarily for creating documents such as reports, letters, brochures, learning activities, tests, quizzes and students’ homework assignments. There are many simple but useful features available in Microsoft Word to make it easier for study and work.

Excel

An electronic spreadsheet is a computer program that is used for storing, organizing and manipulating data. Use Excel to streamline data entry with autofill, identify trends and patterns with data bars, sparklines, color coding, and icons. You can also get charts and PivotTable recommendations based on your data, and create them with one click.  Share your work from within Excel, using OneDrive.

Power Point

PowerPoint is used to create professional-looking slideshow presentations that can be displayed on projectors or big-screen TVs. Use PowerPoint to create, review and deliver engaging presentations in or out of the classroom to keep your audience focused on your subject.

One Drive

OneDrive is a file-hosting service operated by Microsoft as part of its suite of online services. It allows users to store files as well as other personal data like Windows settings or BitLocker recovery keys in the cloud. Files can be synced to a PC and accessed from a web browser or a mobile device, as well as shared publicly or with specific people.

Teams

Microsoft Teams is a collaboration app that helps your team stay organized and have conversations—all in one place. Here’s a quick look at the left hand side of Teams. Find channels to belong to or create your own. Inside channels you can hold on-the-spot meetings, have conversations, and share files.  See everything you’ve got lined up for the day or week. Or, schedule a meeting.

SharePoint

SharePoint is a web-based collaborative platform that integrates with Microsoft Office. SharePoint is primarily a document management and storage system, but the product is highly configurable and usage varies substantially between organizations.

Forms

With Forms you can  create a form, surveys, polls or quizzes with questions, define settings, share your form, and check results in just a few easy steps! Collaborate with colleagues on quizzes, surveys, and polls. You can also share your form as a template for others to use independently.

OneNote

OneNote Class Notebooks is your very own digital notebook. It allows everyone to have a personal workspace for every student, a content library for handouts, and a collaboration space for lessons and creative activities.

Yammer

Yammer is a social layer across Microsoft 365, integrating with the apps and services you already use to stay productive. You can create and edit documents, take notes, and share resources as a group.

Stream

Get started uploading, categorizing and sharing your videos with Microsoft Stream. Stream provides a video hosting repository with closed captioning capabilities.

Sway

Planner makes it easy for your team to create new plans, organize and assign tasks, share files, chat about what you’re working on, and get updates on progress.

Microsoft Whiteboard provides a free-form canvas where groups can collaborate visually online. This application allows you to animate your ideas, create professional looking charts, and have an interactive environment with your team.
