VoIP

The university primary telephone system is a Cisco Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system that provides dial tone to all non-emergency phones located at all University locations. Telephone sets programmed in this system are the property of the individual departments but must be programmed and provisioned centrally via the IT Service Desk. Please note: If your are initiating a NEW service or phone number a monthly recurring charge is required as well as a cost for a physical phone set. Please ask your supervisor to open a ticket with the SD to initiate this request to verify and coordinate billing of services

(Important Note: Emergency Phones such as elevator, blue light and campus police phones are managed on separate system.)

Please note that telephones programmed are essentially computer equipment. These devices are portable from location to location within the URI system but are non-functional off campus. Many difficulties can be quickly corrected by unplugging the device from the computer network connection and reconnecting. Models and capabilities vary greatly.
