Biography

As Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Michael Khalfayan is responsible for the development, implementation, and operations of a comprehensive, university-wide information security strategy and program for the university. He sets security policies, standards, and processes, utilizes a risk-based methodology to inform work, anticipates threats and identifies potential impact. Michael represents URI in key forums focused on critical infrastructure, security and online trust. With over 20 years of experience in the internet network operations and security industries, Khalfayan brings tremendous technical leadership and operational expertise to the university.
Khalfayan has actively provided strategic and tactical security guidance to proactively define and prioritize the implementation of physical, administrative, and technical controls. He is currently a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), The Research and Education Networks Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC), InfraGard, Center for Internet Security (CIS) and has participated in other working groups and committees.
