IT Strategic Plan

The IT plan for URI is built to support the FOCUS URI strategic plan. In an increasingly digital world, IT support services have become both essential for daily operations as well as a major support for all four URI strategic priorities – broadening our impact, enhancing student achievement, fostering an inclusive culture, and powering the university of the future.

Information Technology is built on a strong foundation of core infrastructure and software services. On this foundation, two core pillars of service delivery and communication support the development, deployment, and delivery of innovative IT solutions which empower and enhance all of the strategic priorities of the University.

This plan calls for sustained and systematic improvement in all five of these aspects and contains over 60 individual projects and activities. It is a holistic plan for both central and distributed IT, and represents a new collaborative framework as we all work together to support the institution.

Priority: Enhance core infrastructure

URI IT needs to provide our constituents with secure, reliable, efficient, and modern infrastructure services. These underpin almost every aspect of FOCUS URI.

Priority: Build modern, uniform IT

Core IT services, such as the LMS, Finance, HR, and Student record systems should be common for all of URI, be built to scale, contain accurate information and be easy to use.

Priority: Enhance Service Delivery

IT issues need to be resolved, quickly, accurately, and permanently. Our community needs to focus on their core mission while we work in the background to help them do so efficiently and effectively.

Priority: Improve outreach

Listening to our user community, sharing what we know, and helping both our current IT workforce and building the next generation of IT professionals.

Priority: Innovate to support URI

Virtual reality, augmented reality, visualization, AI, and Quantum all have the potential to radically reshape and enhance all aspects of URI. From computational research to new digitally enhanced learning modalities, digital will be reshaping the academic core mission. New, AI-based tools hold the potential to radically reshape all client interactions and automate routine tasks, while digitally enhanced communities of shared interest can transform the student experience.
