Active Directory

Active Directory (AD) is a directory service developed by Microsoft for Windows domain networks.  It authenticates and authorizes all users and computers in a Windows domain type network—assigning and enforcing security policies for all computers and installing or updating software. URI utilizes Active Directory in conjunction with Microsoft Azure serves as the foundation for our Single Sign On (SSO) service for providing comprehensive and integrated security across multiple platforms.  In short, AD accepts an automated data feed from the University Human Resources platform within eCampus to provide basic information about a user’s identity and entitlements within the URI system. If you are experiencing difficulties accessing the SSO system or need additional information, please contact the IT Service Desk for assistance. If you have questions about IT Security Policy please visit the IT Security site – security.uri.edu – or contact the IT service desk to request a consultation with the IT Security Group.
