How to Train Your Tech: Harness Emerging Tools as Allies 

URI ITS Teaching and Learning Services is pleased to announce Tech Day 2026. For the first time, the annual virtual conference will be open to educators beyond the University of Rhode Island community. 

Faculty, instructors, and higher education professionals are invited to explore emerging technologies that support teaching and learning.

Date: Thursday, August 27, 2026 
Time: 10 a.m.–4 p.m. 
Location: Virtual conference 
Cost: Free 

This year’s theme, How to Train Your Tech: Harness Emerging Tools as Allies, focuses on practical and innovative technologies that support teaching and learning in higher education. Sessions will explore how emerging tools can become effective partners for both faculty and students. 

Topics may include: 

  • Artificial intelligence (AI)  
  • Digital accessibility  
  • Educational technology tools  
  • Learning management systems
  • Multimedia and content creation
  • Productivity and workflow strategies

Proposal Review

Review will include alignment with the theme, applicability to higher education, innovation or added value beyond technology alone, and use of resources and tools. 

Note: Use of resources and tools considers accessibility, security, and feasibility. These factors are influential for public institutions such as the University of Rhode Island.

What is Tech Day?

Every August IT at URI hosts an annual ed tech innovation day for its faculty, with multiple tracks and virtual sessions centered on a new theme each year.

To servie the higher education we have decided to take what we offer and extend the invitation o the higher education community.

Both ed tech support staff and faculty present use case studies, best practices, ideas, solutions, technology curriculum design, and emerging educational technology innovations. Tech Day participants may pick and choose sessions of interest to take technology enhanced learning to the next level.
