Background

The Unity is cluster is one part of URI’s partnership with the Massachusetts Green High-Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC), with the cluster being jointly supported by the University of Massachusetts Amherst and UMass Dartmouth and URI.

Interface

Unity offers both traditional SSH access as well as an OpenOnDemand interface that supports Python, R/RStudio, Mathematica, and MATLAB and more.

Documentation

Documentation with some URI specific changes are available here. The official system documentation is available here. Additionally, here is a ▶️video showing how to setup connecting via ssh and submit your first job.

Tips

URI users may use the priority queues uri-cpu and uri-gpu. You can list multiple queues: --partition=uri-cpu,cpu or --partition=uri-gpu,gpu. If your jobs are pending and can restart gracefully you can add the preempt queue. For example, --partition=uri-cpu,cpu,cpu-preempt or --partition=uri-gpu,gpu,gpu-preempt. Also, replace cpu or gpu with cpu-long and gpu-long if the job needs to run for more than one day.

Access

Access is available to all Faculty and Students, although Students need to be part of a Faculty’s group. Faculty should request a PI account, which will should get approved quickly. After that, Faculty can manage group membership through the portal. The portal uses URI’s Single-Sign On (SSO) after selecting “University of Rhode Island” on the “Login/Request account” page.

Support

Please contact hpc@etal.uri.edu for more information, or any support questions you have when using the system.
