What is Tech Day?
Every August IT hosts an annual ed tech innovation day for faculty, with multiple tracks and virtual sessions centered on a new theme each year.
Both URI ed tech support staff and faculty present use case studies, best practices, ideas, solutions, technology curriculum design, and emerging educational technology innovations. Tech Day participants may pick and choose sessions of interest to take technology enhanced learning to the next level.

AI Tools and Tech for Authentic Assessment of Student Achievement Presenters: Dr. Michelle Rogers and Jim McGwin | AI has exploded and become widely available as it is implemented in many tools, software and apps as well as AI bots being published across the Internet and app stores for tablets and phones. Industry is expecting students to use AI to increase work and business productivity. However, some faculty have expressed concerns about their students cheating on exams with AI, and want to know how to authentically assess student knowledge and learning achievement outside of AI use. This session is a consultation session centered on this challenge: Several examples will be shared. And faculty may bring a use-case and share what assignment, task or project with which they are having this challenge. Based on the use-case the speakers will suggest specific educational technologies and aligned learning design to solve this dilemma. |

Gradescope: An automated tool to help grade student programming projects Presenter: Noah Daniels | Do your students need to submit assignments using computer programming? Come and learn about Gradescope, an automated option for grading these types of assignments. |
Using Panopto in Brightspace for Engaging Assessments Presenter: Lisa Chen | Panopto is the tool used to share videos with students in your Brightspace course. Come to this session and learn how to adapt access permissions, set-up recordings, and utilize Panopto to maximize your efforts. |
Online Make-up Exam Option Presenters: Lisa Chen and Mary Jane Palm | Discover a method using Microsoft O365 Teams to proctor small groups of remote students who need to make up a quiz using current software available at URI. Come and learn steps for instructor and student in setting up, taking, and administering quizzes using this tool. |
Enhancing Student Engagement with PointSolutions for Polling Presenter: Dr George Dombi | Learn from a URI Chemistry professor how he used polling in large intro classes to foster the teaching and learning process and gage real-time assessment of student understanding. |
Rubrics Set-up and Use within Brightspace Presenters: Claire Kozar and Gideon Sears | Explore the set-up and functionality of Brightspace rubrics to facilitate assessment of learning. This session is presented by a Brightspace specialist. |
