Rhody Connect was built on the Modo Labs platform, and is managed by the ITS Innovation Group mobile app team. The opt-in message and notification functionality are part of Modo Communicate, an included feature of the platform that can be extended to URI departments and organizations. To maximize the use of these available communication channels, we have developed the following guidelines. More information, including messaging best practices, can be found in the Rhody Connect Communicate User Guide.

Frequency of Updates

Channel administrators should send a message at least once every 4 weeks to maintain communication and use. After 4 weeks of inactivity, the organization will be notified. If, after an additional 4 weeks, the channel administrator hasn’t sent a message, the channel will be under consideration for removal.

This does not include channels that are approved for a specific event or function, such as orientation or commencement. These channels are expected to send at least one message per event cycle.

User Threshold

Outside of a specific event or function that is approved beforehand, a channel is expected to have at least 50 subscribers after the first 3 months. After 3 months, the organization not reaching this threshold will be issued a warning. If the channel is not above this threshold after 6 months, the channel will be under consideration for removal.

Message Content

Message content should be professional and comply with University policies and applicable laws and regulations. Opt-in channels will be considered for removal from Rhody Connect for the following:

  • Sharing personally identifiable information
  • Solicitation of services or products outside of URI
  • Explicit or offensive content

Guideline Changes

The Mobile App Advisory Committee reserves the right to update or make exceptions to these guidelines. All opt-in channel administrators will be notified when or if changes occur.
