The University of Rhode Island is committed to delivering information to you (the “User”) when, where and how you want it. By providing an easy-to-use pathway to the information, resources and URI systems you want and need, Rhody Connect (the “Application”) helps you actively engage with all URI has to offer.

URI is also committed to respecting your privacy. This privacy policy describes the privacy practices employed for the Application and details what information the Application collects about you, how your information is used, with whom it is shared and how we protect it.

Information Collection and Use

While using the Application, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to, your email address, name, phone number. We collect this information for the purpose of providing the service, identifying you in our system, communicating with you, responding to your requests and inquiries, servicing your account, and improving the Application. By using the Application, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Data Collection

When you access the Application by or through a mobile device, we may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device unique ID, the IP address of your mobile device at the time of connection, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browser you use, the referring source, landing page and other statistics (“Log Data”) that allow us to operate and optimize the Application for your use. The Application does not track you.

Log Data is information your browser automatically reports when you visit a web page or access an application. Log Data may be gathered and reported by your device when the contents of a website or application is downloaded through your browser or to your device. In addition, we reserve the right to use third party applications to collect, monitor and analyze this information, measure traffic and usage trends in order to increase our Application’s functionality and responsiveness for the User. This analytics information is combined with analytics information from other users in a form not reasonably used to identify an individual user. System administrators and developers are the only people with access to the raw logs while management has access to analytics in the aggregate.

If you wish to opt-out of data collection, you must uninstall the Application. To do so, use the standard uninstall processes of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.

Location Information

In order to make the Application more robust with the features provided to the User, we may use and store information about your location depending on the permissions you have set on your device. We use this information to improve and customize features of our Application, such as location-based notifications, bus arrival times, and nearby campus buildings. You may enable or disable your location services when you use our Application at any time, by your choice in your mobile device settings.

Links to External Applications or Websites

The Application serves as an interface tool to connect you to other sites and systems and links you to information both internal and external to URI. Once you are directed to another site or system by tapping the corresponding link, the Application no longer collects information about your usage and navigation history. The sites and systems the Application can link you to may require additional authentication and may collect information about you. These sites may not provide a encrypted communication via SSL/TLS. The Application has no access to any information those sites or systems collect about you.

Children’s Privacy

The Application is provided for the use of persons age thirteen years or older (13+) who have permission to download and access our Application. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us at urimobile@uri.edu. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.
