About ETAC

The Educational Technology Advisory Council (ETAC) is the advisory body to IT Directors on educational technology system recommendations and changes, unless said changes are determined to be critical decisions that require review by the IT Gov Committee and CIO. For critical votes, a quorum of ETAC members must be present. All other votes will be taken by members who are present.

Quantum Learning Initiative: Integration into Rhode Island’s K-12 schools; prepares students for future jobs.
Grant Opportunity: Quantum learning course for mid-career executives led by Len Kahn.
AI Big Data Forum: Prof. Stephen Bach to speak on AI and bots on 11/22/24; key networking event.
Proposed Brightspace Change: Automatic 0 for unsubmitted work after due date; concerns about workload and student relationships; not beneficial for all instructors.
Brightspace Management Plan: Archive old courses, adjust system settings; changes by late next summer; team feedback requested.
New Implementations: Integrity Advocate proctoring solution; Course Merchant for external course catalog and sales.
Perusall Integration: Approved for Brightspace.
Plugin Upgrades: Moving from version 1.1 to 1.3 for better security/functionality.
Communication Issues: Challenges with McGraw-Hill Connect update; need for improved communication and testing.
Instructor Grant Program: Shared by Chris Lavan.
